In meiner künstlerischen Praxis reflektiere ich aufgeladene Themen wie Klimadebatten, stagnierende politische Positionen und Fake News durch ästhetische Kompositionen und Video-Essays, die zum Nachdenken anregen, dich manchmal schmunzeln lassen und hoffentlich Energien freisetzen.
Meine künstlerische Praxis funktioniert auf zwei Ebenen. Ich dokumentiere unscheinbare, faszinierende Details im Alltag, dabei entsteht ein umfangreiches Video- und Foto-Archiv. Diese scheinbar belanglosen Momente halte ich mit meiner Handykamera fest. Je nach Zusammenarbeit und Kontext greife ich auf dieses Archiv zurück.
Mit derselben Aufmerksamkeit, in der ich durch meinen Alltag streife, bewege ich mich auch durch digitale Räume wie YouTube und halte dort subtil, absurde Momente fest. Aus diesen YouTube-Schnipseln kreiere ich neue Kompositionen, wie zum Beispiel im Video-Essay „In Reverse“. Dieses thematisiert die Klimadebatte in den USA und Australien, sowie den Umgang der Mainstream-Medien mit sogenannten Klimakritikern. Mit ähnlicher Technik entstand auch mein Experimentalvideo „Crush The Virus of Fake News“, in dem ich rhetorische Techniken wie „Firehosing“ und „Gaslighting“ untersuche – eine Art der Propaganda, die darauf abzielt, demokratische Strukturen zu untergraben. Dabei gehe ich der Frage nach, warum offensichtliche Lügen momentan in der Politik so großen Anklang finden.
Bei meinem experimentellen Videoportrait „Visionen der Transformation mit Luisa Neubauer“, über die Klima Aktivistin Luisa Neubauer kommen die zwei Ebenen der YouTube Schnipsel und des ästhetischen Archives zusammen. Wir nehmen Sie mit zu den Anfängen von «Fridays for Future», in verschiedene Fernsehdebatten, bei Anne Will, oder bei Markus Lanz. Gegengeschnitten mit meditativen, stimmungsvollen Landschaftsaufnahmen, Wasserspiegelungen, romantische Sonnenuntergänge, dem beobachten von Tieren und Insekten; kriechende Raupen, flatternde Schmetterlinge, summende Bienen, Käfer, lustige Enten oder stille Fische. Lassen Sie sich von Luisa Neubauer, einer inspirierenden Rednerin und kraftvollen Kommunikatorin, in den Bann ziehen. Regen sie sich mit ihr auf, lassen Sie sich die Dringlichkeit spüren, im Kontrast zu den stimmungsvollen Bildern.
In meinem Projekt „Becky’s Garden“, beschäftige ich mich mit dem Aussterben des Monarchfalters. Mit ästhetisch überbordenden Collagen reflektiere ich über die außergewöhnliche Schönheit, die durch das Insektensterben schleichend verloren geht. Im Projekt „Insects & Plants“ beleuchte ich das Insekten- und Pflanzensterben auf lokaler Ebene, mit Fotos aus Mitteleuropa. Die Fotografie-Collagen appellieren subtil, dass diese außergewöhnliche Schönheit und Vielfalt durch das Insekten- und Pflanzensterben bald verschwinden. Die animierten Collagen die als humorvolle Memento mori daherkommen, lassen uns traurig schmunzeln.
In my artistic practice, I reflect on charged topics such as climate debates, stagnant political positions and fake news through aesthetic compositions and video essays that are thought-provoking, sometimes make you smile and hopefully release energy.
My artistic practice works on two levels. I document inconspicuous, fascinating details of everyday life, creating an extensive video and photo archive. I capture these seemingly insignificant moments with my cell phone camera. Depending on the collaboration and context, I draw on this archive.
With the same attentiveness with which I roam through my everyday life, I also move through digital spaces such as YouTube and capture subtle, absurd moments there. I create new compositions from these YouTube snippets, for example in the video essay “In Reverse”. This deals with the climate debate in the USA and Australia, as well as the mainstream media’s treatment of so-called climate critics. My experimental video “Crush The Virus of Fake News”, in which I examine rhetorical techniques such as “firehosing” and “gaslighting” – a type of propaganda aimed at undermining democratic structures – was also created using a similar technique. In doing so, I explore the question of why blatant lies are currently so popular in politics.
In my experimental video portrait “Visions of Transformation with Luisa Neubauer”, about the climate activist Luisa Neubauer, the two levels of YouTube snippets and the aesthetic archive come together. We take you back to the beginnings of “Fridays for Future”, to various television debates, on Anne Will or Markus Lanz. Intercut with meditative, atmospheric landscape shots, water reflections, romantic sunsets, the observation of animals and insects; crawling caterpillars, fluttering butterflies, buzzing bees, beetles, funny ducks or quiet fish. Let yourself be captivated by Luisa Neubauer, an inspiring speaker and powerful communicator. Get excited with her, let yourself feel the urgency, in contrast to the atmospheric pictures.
In my project “Becky’s Garden”, I deal with the extinction of the monarch butterfly. With aesthetically exuberant collages, I reflect on the extraordinary beauty that is gradually being lost due to insect extinction. In the “Insects & Plants” project, I shed light on insect and plant extinction at a local level with photos from Central Europe. The photographic collages make a subtle appeal that this extraordinary beauty and diversity will soon disappear due to insect and plant extinction. The animated collages, which come across as humorous memento mori, make us smile sadly.
